Science | The Importance of Wind Turbine Gearbox Lubricants

As we all know, wind power gearbox is one of the core components of wind turbine, and its main function is to transfer the power generated by the wind turbine under the action of wind to the generator by increasing and decreasing the torque, so as to realize power generation. In the process of power transmission, the gear system inside the gear box carries a huge alternating load, and every operation and maintenance detail will have an impact on the normal operation of the gear box. Perhaps, some users have not had the opportunity to understand the important role of lubricants in the operation of gearboxes, which cannot be ignored. The purpose of adding lubricant to the gear box is: to form a lubricant film between the friction surfaces with strong normal bearing capacity and low tangential shear strength, which reduces the friction resistance and material wear, and at the same time, takes away the heat generated between the meshing tooth surfaces, avoiding the occurrence of tooth damage caused by high temperature such as gluing and reduces the vibration, impact and noise of the gears.
